One Oven Symptom Can Point to Two Different Systems
If an electric oven will broil but will not bake, that immediately narrows the job. The oven has power and at least part of the control system is alive, so we chase the bake side instead of treating the whole appliance as dead.
A gas oven is different. The oven can have a working display and working surface burners while the bake section still refuses to heat because the oven ignition circuit has its own igniter, valve and control path.
That is why “oven not heating” is not a diagnosis. It is the first clue.
Before the appointment, note whether Bake, Broil and Convection behave differently. That small detail can save a lot of guesswork once the oven is opened up.
Oven Running Hot or Cold? Calibration Is Not Always the Fix
Some ovens allow a temperature calibration adjustment, and that can help when the oven consistently runs a little hot or cold. But calibration is not the right answer when the temperature swings wildly, one heating mode is dead, the oven drops heat, or the sensor reading is wrong.
We compare the complaint with actual temperature behavior first. If the oven has a hardware failure, changing the calibration setting only hides the symptom for a while.
Uneven Baking Can Be an Oven Problem or a Cooking Setup Problem

Why does my gas oven not heat even though the burners work?
The surface burners and oven do not use the exact same ignition path. A gas range can have working top burners while the oven has a problem with its igniter, valve circuit, controls or related wiring.
Why does my oven take so long to preheat?
Slow preheat can come from a weak or failed heating circuit, temperature sensing trouble, door heat loss, power issues or normal model-specific operation. If the preheat time changed noticeably from how the oven used to work, it is worth checking.
Why is my oven temperature inaccurate?
