An ice maker is only one piece of the system. Water supply, freezer temperature, the refrigerator control system and the dispenser can all create what looks like an ice maker failure.
Water leaking? If water is actively leaking from the refrigerator or ice machine, shut off the appliance water supply if you can do it safely. A small fill problem can turn into cabinet, flooring or wall damage if the leak keeps running.
Ice production is too slow
A warm freezer, restricted filter, weak water flow, partially frozen fill path or an ice maker that is not cycling normally can cut production without stopping it completely.
Small or hollow ice cubes
When the mold does not get enough water, cubes can come out small, hollow or incomplete. Water pressure, filter restriction and fill time move high on the list.
Ice maker fills but does not dump ice
If cubes freeze in the mold but never reach the bin, the problem is different from a no-fill condition. We check temperature, the harvest mechanism and ice maker controls.
Frozen fill tube
A frozen fill tube can stop water from entering the ice maker. Simply thawing it may not solve the reason it froze, so we also look at the fill and valve side of the system.

Water around the mold, bucket or freezer can come from a fill tube, valve, connection, overfill condition or ice buildup redirecting water where it should not go.
Ice is made but will not dispense

No Ice Does Not Automatically Mean a Bad Ice Maker
This is one of the easiest refrigerator repairs to misdiagnose from the symptom alone. The ice maker can be perfectly capable of cycling and still produce nothing because the compartment is too warm or the mold is not getting enough water.
A weak dispenser stream, a filter that has become restricted, a kinked supply line or a fill problem can all starve the ice maker. On the other side, a refrigerator that is not holding proper freezer temperature may never get the ice maker cold enough to start a normal cycle.
If the freezer is also warming up, food is getting soft or frost is building abnormally, tell us that first. The real job may be refrigerator repair, not an isolated ice maker failure.
Small Ice Often Points Back to Water Flow
Small or hollow cubes are useful evidence. They often mean the ice mold is not getting a full charge of water before the freeze cycle starts.
