A Cooktop That Clicks May Not Need an Igniter
On a gas cooktop, a clicking burner tells us the ignition system is at least trying to spark. Before replacing anything, we check whether the burner is clean and dry, the cap is sitting flat, the ports are open, and the spark is landing where it should.
Spills and cleaning matter here. Moisture around the ignition area can make a perfectly good cooktop act broken until the area dries out. If those basics are right and the burner still will not light, then we go deeper into the electrode, switch, wiring and spark module.
A Radiant Element Cycling On and Off Is Usually Normal
On many electric ranges, the surface control cycles power to maintain the selected heat. Seeing the burner glow, switch off, then glow again does not automatically mean something is failing.
What gets our attention is an element that will not regulate, stays much hotter than the setting calls for, never gets hot enough, or behaves very differently from the other cooking zones.
One Dead Cooking Zone Narrows the Search
