Water Works Park is located at the intersection of I-35 East and FM 2181. This park has an area of 44 acres, making it the largest Denton city owned park. Water Works Park was first purchased by the city in 1974, after a local man donated 60 acres to Denton for parkland on Jones Creek. The first two trails were first built in 1974 as well.
This park is popular with hikers, mountain bikers, fishermen and dog walkers where you can enjoy several miles of trails within the woods on Lake Lewisville on Jones Creek Trail . Along these trails are some historic markers about Denton’s early history. In addition there are playgrounds, picnic areas and pavilions around 25 acres which surround a lake offering fishing opportunities to any visitors. This lake is also used for kayaking and non-motorized boating. The trails at this park are open to the public and admission fee charged as well as an annual pass available.
The city of Denton Parks and Recreation offers special event such as trail runs, bike rides or music events throughout the year in Water Works Park .
Water Works Park also has a dog park with separate areas for small and big dogs where your leashed can enjoy the off-leash area. It features a large fenced area that you can let them run around freely and play with other dogs without worrying about traffic. This park also has water fountains, benches, restrooms and trash cans provided on so it’s fun place for both you and your dog to enjoy.
This park is open between 5 am – 11 pm daily, except for legal holidays such as Christmas and New Year’s Day when it’s closed. However the hours vary depending on the season due to sunrise and sunset times during those days.
